I. Read. Hardcore.: 24 Hour Read-a-thon 10/24/2009
34 Comments

This will be my single post for read-a-thon. I will update every few hours, so check back often. And, surprise, I'm doing video updates. So you all get to see me go from perky and excited to deranged and exhausted. Hell ya! I'll be all a-twitter with mini updates and letting you all know when I post a new video. So stay tuned...
I did it! I stayed up the entire 24 hours without so much as a power nap. You're not hardcore unless you READ hardcore! I'll do a recap/wrap-up post later.

1st update
2nd update
3rd update

Hour 4 Mini Challenge
Hosted by Bart's Bookshelf

Create a sentence using 3-4 book titles from your bookshelf.

Cane, say you're one of them leaving Cecil Street searching for whitopia.

I cracked myself up with that one!

Ok, so I suck at getting screenshots apparently. I hope this will suffice. Good news, though: #readathon is like #6 in trending topics! woot! woot!

Traditional read-a-thon blessing:

May the bookshelf be there to greet you.
May all the books appeal.
May the fridge be full of tasty snacks;
the words fall soft upon your eyes and until the read-a-thon ends,
may you always hold a book in the palm of your hand.

:-D

Happy read-a-thon!

Hi there - and good morning, afternoon or evening..???

My name is Louise and this is my first visit to your blog. I am already looking forward to visit again and check it out more :-)

I live in Denmark and have been up for hours, since I am nine hours ahead of Pacific Time and 5AM Pacific Time means 2PM in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I wish you much luck with your readathon. I have signed up this year for the first time, although I am not reading but cheerleading.

Those first hours I am going to orientate myself a bit, check out the blogs participating, hanging out on Twitter and so on. I might sneak in a bit of reading here and there, but my main thing is to cheer so GO! GO! GO!

Austen, Hemingway
Rushdie, Poe
If they were here
I’m sure they’d say hello

Bronte, Tolstoy
Thoreau, Albee
They think you’re swell
And I agree

Enjoyed your vlog! I read Quicksand a few years ago. I wish Nella Larsen had written more than just a couple of short novels...I really like her style.

Go Browngirl go! I have had some interruptions here and there. However, I am still reading when and where I can! Push is such a great book but I will finish it by the end of the challenge.
Talk to you soon!

It's astounding, time is fleeting
Reading takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
You've almost met the goal

I remember doing the Read-a-thon
During those moments when
The blackness would hit me and sleep would be calling
Let's do the readathon again...
Let's do the readathon again!

It's just a book in your hand
And then a flip of the page
With your eyes on the words
You let your mind engage
But it's the cheerleaders that really drive you insane,
Let's do the readathon again!

Your book is dreamy, or hot and steamy
It stars a banshee, or no one at all
It’s in another dimension, there’s no comprehension
Oh no, there’s none at all
With a bit of a page flip
You're suddenly on a space ship
And nothing can ever be the same
You're strung out on cookies, you sound like a Wookie
Let's do the readathon again!

Well I was strolling through the bookstore just havin’ a look
When what should I espy but my next book
It shook me up, it took me by surprise
It had a sale tag and Care gave it 5 pies.
It lured me in and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let's do the readathon again!
