2010-2011 Curriculum 08/05/2010
I'm participating in this year's Not Back to School Blog Hop at Heart of the Matter and the first week's post is on our curriculum selections for this school year. It's funny that, for months, I thought I had everything all picked out and most of it purchased. Just as I was about to write my post for this blog hop on Monday, I realized why I hadn't purchased some things yet...I wasn't really feeling them like I thought. The stuff I was sure about, I bought without hesitation. I can't believe I listened to my instincts for a change. We're excited about "2nd grade" and here's what we'll be doing this year... Language Arts: Growing With Grammar, Soaring With Spelling and Vocabulary, Writing With Ease, Primary Analogies I, lots of living books and poetry (Langston Hughes and Issa) Math: Math Mammoth Science: R.E.A.L Science Odyssey - Earth & Space, Nature Study History: History Odyssey, Story of the World (Middle Ages) Bible/ Character Study: memory verses & discussing bible stories, Character Building Day by Day Fine Arts: Draw Write Now, Artist Studies, Music Studies (classical and jazz) Extras: Karate, bowling (maybe), piano (hopefully) 5 Comments Planning Bug 02/17/2010
I've been bitten by the planning bug. I'm already finished mapping out my curriculum purchases for second grade...I think. Are any of us ever really finished? Nah, we just have to stop ourselves and pick something at some point. January marked year two for our home school family and I'm still getting on solid round around here. I'm ready to have a good flow about this. Anyway, I'll just share what I have so far: Language Arts - Primary Language Lessons, Spectrum Spelling 3 Math - MCP level B (still mulling over ) Science - no idea just know that we want to cover weather, solar system, and chemistry. will probably just do create my own thing History - Story of the World 2 Foreign Language - still debating if we'll start Latin this year or 3rd grade. Meanwhile we have Hooked on French and Hooked on Chinese for fun Bible - will create my own thing focused on more character building and more memory verses Nature Study - continue with Handbook of Nature Study and nature walks, gardening Fine Arts - music and art appreciation (my own thing), Draw Write Now I think that's it. Of course, there'll be lots of living books. Still gotta find some good books set in Africa for the Middle Ages. Any suggestions? To get everything organized, I'm going to create my own planner. I wanted to purchase this lovely planner I've been ogling for months, but I like doing a Day # format instead of specific dates so that it's easy to adjust if things get off track which they do and probably will. This means I gotta get a nifty comb binding machine. Well, I don't have to but I want one so there. Now I have to plan the planner... ![]() | Curriculum Year By Year
